From what i gather, there's 2 variant: One is Blyxa Aubertii n e other Blyxa Japonica as we commonly see. Ya need extremely strng lighting in order to see em acquiring a reddish hue. Other thn dat they will remain fresh green.

I have japonicas in my 2 footer, sometimes the newer leaves will come out reddish like in the 1st pic, but will turn to green on maturity.. sometimes they juz grow out green..
I guess itz something to do with the trace elements like Iron? |

They grow at an amazing speed, becomes somewhat like a weed if not maintained properly...
In my 1 yr with japonicas, i started with 2 x $2 pots, that's about 5 or 6 clumps in all... to date i've harvested many many (i guess more than 10) shoots from those original few, i either give them away FOC or throw them away when no1 wans... |
