Description

Common Name: Blyxa Japonica

Blyxa Japonica is a popular aquarium plant, made famous by the renowned aquascaper Takashi Amano. Amano frequently used this plant to create a bushy effect in the background or midground of his aquascapes.  This plant grows fast with little demand, making it a great option for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike. The leaves can develop a golden or red hue when grown under high light and a nutrient substrate.

Blyxa can be propagated by cutting the runners or small plantlets that develop from the mother plant.  New shoots will grow horizontally from the base of a more established plant, similar to Swords and Vals.

Notes:

  • Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.
  • CO2 injection will yield better growth.
  • Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.

    Facts:

Blyxa Japonica is a moderately challenging plant to grow and requires specific conditions to thrive.
It prefers moderate to high lighting levels and a nutrient-rich substrate for optimal growth.
The plant's color can vary from light green to vibrant green, depending on the lighting and nutrient conditions.
    Dos:

Provide moderate to high lighting to encourage compact growth and vibrant green coloration.
Supplement with CO2 injection and nutrient-rich fertilizers to support healthy growth.
Maintain stable water parameters, including temperature, pH, and water hardness.
    Don'ts:

Avoid shading Blyxa Japonica with taller plants, as it can cause it to become leggy and lose its compact form.
Do not allow the plant to become overcrowded, as it needs space for its foliage to spread out.
Avoid sudden changes in water parameters, as it can cause stress and negatively impact the plant.
