Did you know that today is a special day in Disney history, especially for fans of Mickey Mouse?

First Mickey Mouse Short 'Plane Crazy' First Mickey Mouse Short 'Plane Crazy'

On this day back in 1928, audiences saw the first test screening of a Mickey Mouse short, which was “Plane Crazy.” People often confuse whether “Plane Crazy” or “Steamboat Willie” was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon, but Dave Smith clears this up in his book “Dave Smith’s Disney A-Z,” explaining that “Plane Crazy” was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon produced, but the third released (“Steamboat Willie” was the first released).

In “Plane Crazy,” Mickey Mouse and his friends build an airplane and take Minnie on an adventurous flight. Today, it’s easy to see how flight has continued to inspire Disney attractions at our parks around the world.

Here at Walt Disney World Resort, you can fly away on a rocket at Astro Orbiter, board a space ship at Mission: SPACE, or take a flight in Fantasyland on the Barnstormer – Starring the Great Goofini.

In honor of today’s nod to history, which is your favorite high-flying adventure at a Disney Park?

  • Soarin’ is nice. But I’d be remiss not to mention the Peter Pan dark ride– riding high over London is always fantastic! My favorite of all, though, is Mickey’s Philharmagic– the part with Aladdin’s magic carpet ride. The wind in your face, the thrilling ups and downs, the wonderful sights of Agrabah… and of course good ole Donald in tow!

  • Without a doubt, Space Mountain! In my mind, the best attraction of all – amazing exterior, great queue, perfect music…and of course, zooming around in the stars!

  • Absolutely, Positively, SOARIN’!

  • I have to say I am partial to “MIssion: Space”. I was a test “Monkey” on the cast preview days when it opened the Summer-Fall of 2003.

  • Soaring is my favorite high-flying ride… But only because a flying limo sounds dumb! (Rock ‘N Roller Coaster)

  • Soarin’ is my favorite flying ride because of its wondrous orange smell that I miss from Horizons. However, the Disney flying contraption that I miss seeing the most is Dreamfinder’s blimp with its idea bag!

    • That was a GREAT flying contraption!

  • Even though I do love sorin for me it’s got to be The magic carpets of aladdin in adventure land.
Can’t wait to ride them again in October!!

    • Oh, two good choices!

  • Mission Space. My daughter and I rode multiple times during a Extra Magic Hours night. On the last ride of the night, the crew lined up to salute as we exited. They were as tired as we were that day. We had a great time!

  • Definitely Soarin, though my daughter just loves the California Zephyr at California Adventure.

  • one of my favorites is TEST TRACK but i was finally able to ride Soarin’ this past Dec and absolutely love that ride – i have never experienced anything like it :> of course i also love Peter Pan :>

  • Soarin followed closely by mission space

  • Definitely Soarin’

I could ride that attraction all day!! And it’s my favorite soundtrack from an attraction as well.

    • Wow, so many responses for Soarin – both here and via Twitter!

  • The Soarin, impossible to forget the music and the magic

  • I’d have to say Soaring, it really makes me feel like I’m flying.

    • Looks like that’s a very popular answer on Twitter as well! One of my favs.
