MARCELLO VENUSTI (attr. A)
(Como, 1512 - Rome 1579)
San Simeone
Oil on copper, 17X22,7 cm
Of Lombard origins, Marcello Venusti is known as a pupil of Perin del Vaga in Rome but it was Michelangelo who forged his style. His creations, in fact, seem to take as a model the works of the main interpreter of the Renaissance, if not even making use of the original cartoons as in the case of the Annunciation in San Giovanni in Laterano. Venusti soon became one of the major popularizers of Michelangelo's style, making mainly small paintings that were praised by Giorgio Vasari.
