Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ [Tc] is a lovely variety, with its dark, hammered leaves, is named after ‘Tropica.’ When grown in the open, the leaves will almost always be on the bottom. It is suitable for small aquariums, with leaves ranging from 10 to 20 cm in length and a rosette ranging from 10 to 20 cm in width. It grows well in hard water, as do most other Cryptocorynes from Sri Lanka. Fertilization of Cryptocoryne Wendtii: Crypts are root feeders, which means they will get the majority of their nutrients from a high-quality aquarium substrate. If you grow them in an inert medium, such as sand or washed gravel, you will need to feed them with root tabs. Can Cryptocoryne be grown in soil? Cryptocoryne plants, or “crypts” for short, are a type of rosette plant that requires substrate and root tabs to thrive.

Cryptocoryne wendtii, Cryptocoryne spiralis, and many other species are common. Does Cryptocoryne require a lot of light? Cryptocoryne wendtii can tolerate both low and high light levels, and appears to respond to lower light levels with longer foliage. While it responds to CO2 injection, it can also grow without it. After being introduced into a new environment, the plant only requires stable conditions and some time to adjust.

Can Cryptocoryne be grown in gravel?
Cryptocoryne is popular in gravel-lined planted aquariums, but it also thrives in sand. This plant is attractive because it comes in a variety of colours. So you won’t be limited to only green plants. Cryptocoryne Tropica is a subspecies of the well-known Cryptocoryne Wendtii. When grown submerged, this popular Crypt will have long, green/orange/bronze crinkled leaves. The photos demonstrate the difference between submerged and emersed grown plants. It grows at a moderate rate, like other Crypts, and can be grown both submerged and emerged. Cryptocoryne care is similar to that of other low-light aquatic plant species such as Anubias, Bucephalandra, and others. Crypts spread via runners, which can be cut and replanted into the soil if desired. Plant individual stems about one inch apart for good coverage. Water trumpets can be planted in groups as long as all of the roots have access to nutrients from the substrate. Potted aquarium plants are submerged and have been adapted to aquarium environments. Once planted, Cryptocoryne prefers not to be moved. If at all possible, avoid moving them! Make no drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will cause the aquarium plant to melt and rot. Better growth will result from CO2 injection and high-quality aquarium soil.
