I analyzed the SEO of 21,327 Squarespace websites

To see what REALLY works

Squarespace gets some bad press for its SEO.

But is this justified?

To discover the truth, I analyzed traffic data from over 20,000 Squarespace websites,

I got these sites from BuiltWith and SEOSpace's Squarespace SEO plugin.

I scanned their homepage to get an SEO score.

Then, I looked at the top 10% to see what makes them stand out.

Here's what I found 👇

The top 10% of sites had:

- 7,638 organic visitors per month - 12.1 times more than the bottom 90%

- A 62.1% higher domain authority (an average DR of 31.6)

- 2.85 times more backlinks (an average of 16,636 links)

- 6.75 times more keywords ranking on Google (an average of 5,007 keywords)

- A 19.8% higher SEO score

While there were some things this study didn't look into/consider,

The conclusion was clear:

Squarespace sites can get A LOT of traffic.

(some get over 100,000/month!)

And the ingredients to success are no different to any other website builder.

To grow your site through SEO, you need:

- More backlinks
- To rank for more keywords (likely through content and blogs)
- Better on-page SEO

Sprinkle in some digital PR, and you're sorted ✅

Most of the noise about Squarespace is from people trying to profit by moving you to WordPress etc.

Focus on what works, and you WILL get results.

Just a note, Google has recently admitted that backlinks are no longer a top 3 ranking factor. Beyond brand links, content and on-page SEO strategy are much more important. Interesting insights, either way!!

Yeah, I saw that @Hannahisonline - only going off what the data shows, but as I mentioned at the bottom of the article, there are certainly more things I'd love to dive into.
