"I've never had this before, and I'm very happy with it. My fish love it, especially my betta!"

-Cindy H. Via Etsy

"Riccia Fluitans" is a drifting, low light, and easy care plant, and somewhat unusual in appearance!

I love them in my tanks as they are great at sheltering fry and baby shrimplets. It dramatically increases the survival rate when you allow it to float on the surface of your breeding tank.

This order is for one clumped bunch, about the size of a small ping-pong ball. Will contain other shorter stems.

2oz portion is roughly a small condiment cup size.

SUBMERGED-GROWN

Growing requirements:

  • 65-80 Degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ph 6-8
  • Medium light intensity.
  • Fast growth speed
  • Ct2 not needed

Cassandra's Notes:

This is sometimes called Pearlwort; a romantic sort of name that alludes to the beautiful little oxygen pearls that form on the tips of this moss. You'll see this effect best under high light, or when this moss floats right up at the surface nearest the light. I love to allow mine to float on the surface for fry and shrimplet shelter, but I have tied it to fishing weights and driftwood before. It will constantly attempt to escape to the surface, but it'll look like a cute little bush for a few months in the meanwhile. I've also used loose gravel to weigh it down.

I've included a photo above of a sample order. This is the amount you can expect to receive. Grown submerged with minimal fertilizer and average light/ room temperatures. I do have snails in tanks.

Got a little of this in with some plants I ordered about a table spoon full maybe the size of a pingpong ball. This was in July last year the other floating plants I had, I gave away the other floater and just have this now. It is in a 40 breeder it covers the whole top of it about 4 to 6 inches thick. I have a sponge filter with a curved accelerated tube face long ways on one end and a HOB aquatop on the other end to keep good surface movement. I have a colony of dwarf Mexican crawfish and skittles shrimp in it. They love this stuff especially the crawfish they will swim backwards from the bottm to get in. I have thinned it 4 or 5 time now and gave it to a friend that has a 125 and he has a big mat floating in his tank now. Just a little easygreen fertlizer and lights this stuff will take off. Great for babies to hide in. It should work great for egg layer also no need for egg mops. Just becareful when thinning put it in a clear tub and shake it to get the baby shrimp and crawfish out of it. It as easy to grow a duckweed but you will not hate this. If you want a floating mat for babies have not found anything better.
