Caroline Wozniacki Is Back in Melbourne After Years Away, and the Countdown Until the Australian Open Is on

The professional tennis player has returned to the court where she won her first major in 2018—and she’s ready to do it again.

Caroline Wozniacki is no stranger to the Grand Slam stage. Prior to what proved to be a temporary retirement from the game of tennis, the Danish professional reached the pedestal at tournament events on more than one occasion. She hoisted the Australian Open trophy in 2018, just two years before walking away for the sport.

Since returning to the game of tennis last summer, the athlete has already returned to one of the biggest stages in the game: the US Open, which takes place at the end of summer each year in New York.

It came as the start of her so-called comeback, only a few tournaments into her return to professional play. She took the heightened competition in stride, reaching the round of 16 before falling to eventual women’s champion Coco Gauff.

Wozniacki is about to be tested again, and she’s ready. In just a few days, the 33-year-old will take the court at Melbourne Park in its namesake city of Melbourne, Australia, seeking to continue her streak of impressive play. Like every other player in the draw, she will be looking for a win—one that would be doubly meaningful: a boost in confidence after three years away from tennis and another Australian Open trophy to add to her display case.

Her mind is certainly bent that way. Over the weekend, Wozniacki shared a photo of herself back in Rod Laver Arena, the center court for the Australian Open, where she won a handful of years ago. “Great to be back at RLA after a few years away! This court will always be very special to me!” she said of the site. It has the chance to hold an even dearer place in her heart very soon.
