If you’ve ever lost your sense of balance upon seeing a new Chanel nail polish for the first time (hellooo, VAMP?), you’re not the only one!
I almost passed out at the counter a few months ago when I first peeped deep, shimmery violet Vendetta — so frickin’ hot!
And before that, after seeing fall’s Haute Chocolate, a shimmery deep brown, I almost dropped to my knees.
But with the new Cote D’Azure collection, Chanel seems to have taken a quieter approach, with two fairly basic summer shades ($23 each): Orange Fizz (a creamy coral) and Golden Sand (a shimmery, peachy gold).
The colors still have an elegant, summery vibe that I think stays true to the Chanel brand.
Can you imagine how pretty they’ll look with a tan?
Each color applies differently. Golden Sand, a limited edition shade, applies smoothly with even pigmentation. Using Orange Fizz, on the other hand, which isn’t limited edition, is a little bit trickier — as in thick and a little streaky — but a good base coat should fix the uneven color issue.
I’ve always had good luck with Chanel polishes in terms of wear time, and these shades seem just as durable as usual.
While I like these colors, my jaw didn’t drop (and I maintained my balance) when I saw them for the first time. Yeah, they’re pretty, but I wouldn’t drop everything to snatch a bottle.
As much as I LOVE Chanel and always will — this time, one could probably find similar shades from other nail polish lines for half the price…

Les Noirs De Chanel Collection
While Vendetta was a spring launch, you can still get your hands on a bottle in a collection called Les Noirs De Chanel, still available online.
Inspired by Coco’s love of black, the six-piece collection includes some very deep, dark colors for lips and nails.
Right now Vendetta, Rouge Noir and Madness ($23 each) are still available online, yay! Unfortch, the Rouge Allure lipstick colors (Maniac, Hysteria and Obscure, $30 each) aren’t.
I’ve only seen this collection on the Chanel website and have yet to see it in person. I’m curious, so I’m trying to track the Rouge Allure lipsticks down. Will let you know if I have any luck!
Lippmann Collection Summer 2009
Speaking of summer launches, this Thursday, Lippmann Collection’s summer colors go on pre-sale online. It’s a small release with two new shades ($15 each): Call Me Irresponsible (a deep violet) and It’s Raining Men (a bold red).
They look spunky, yah?
Are we there yet?
How’s your Wednesday been? Mine’s been draggin’. I can’t wait until tomorrow night! El Hub’s taking me to this event in the city called NightLife, a recurring Thursday night gig at the San Francisco Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, which is a combination natural sciences museum/planetarium, but every Thursday night they turn the place into a nightclub for people 21 and up, with DJs, cocktails and all kinds of sciencey things to check out. I hope it’s fun.
I hope you’re holding up today and feeling extra fly in your skinny jeans (or whatever you’re wearing). 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Orange fizz looks yummy enough to drink!

Hi Citrine,
It does! Or perhaps nibble on as a snack?
Stacie says
I kinda like orange fizz, but not enough to pay the Chanel price. I’m waiting on the Celestial Lights glossimer collection–for that, I will splurge!
Karen says
Hi Stacie,
For sure! That collection looks like it’ll be drop dead gorge. Can’t wait. 🙂
xtina says
Hey Karen,
What’s your NUMBER ONE Chanel product? What would be the only Chanel product you could ever have, in an endless supply?
Karen says
Hi Xtina,
Ahh! This is a toughy. I can’t live without Coco Mademoiselle perfume, that’s for sure. And Astral Glossimer. And Exceptionnel mascara… oops, that’s three things. 🙂

Hey Karen,
I wanted to thank you for recommending a great Chanel lip gloss awhile back. I think the name is Ironic Tonic, but it’s too small on the container to read. Says #71. This is the first lip gloss that I’ve almost used up and I’ll buy another when it’s gone. I usually get bored with them before using them up, so this is a first.
Love your blog, by the way. I like that you update regularly and have ideas that are doable in real life for people not in the fashion world.
Just wanted to let you know that I’m a fan.
Karen says
Hi Jan,
It’s nice to meet you! 🙂
Yup, I believe 71 is Ironic Tonic. Yay, I’m so glad you like it! It’s a wonderful plum color that’s so easy to wear. Do you think you might try any of the other Aqualumiere glosses? They have some really pretty ones out for summer.
Emily says
I’m not sure I’m gutsy enough to do the orange nail polish. Although maybe my normal colors are too boring and I should spice it up?
Emily´s last blog post..Happy Birthday, Matt!
Karen says
Hi Emily,
You should do it! Maybe try it on your toes first so you can get used to seeing the color?
Once you make the jump to crazy colors you won’t be able to go back. Next thing ya know you’ll be rocking the teals, yellows and purples (trust me, it’s doable!).
Mishel says
that’s so funny u posted on orange fizz. i just bought an orange nail polish and thought it was kind of 6th grade of me. on, it looks coral and really spring/summery. loves it!
Karen says
Hi Mishel,
Girl, I’m all about those sixth grade colors. It looks like nails are going really bright for summer, so expect to see lots more yellow, green and blue in additional to coral. YAY for crazy shades!
Miss QQ says
Hi Karen. I like Orange Fizz but I think I will pass these.
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
Yah, you can probably find something similar… maybe check out Golden Sand cause it’s LE? It might be worth a look!
Vera says
I don’t have anything to say about the nail polish. Although some Chanel colors are tempting, I have a hard time shelling out $23 for a little bottle. I’d rather use that towards a quad or lip or eye products. hehe
The thing at the Academy of Sciences looks like fun. I didn’t even know they had that sort of thing. Music, alcohol, and science. That’s what I’m talking about! hehe Hopefully I’ll be able to check it out sometime after after May. Damn night classes ruin everything. lol If finals weren’t around the corner I’d be on my way to London. Next time. =P
Karen says
Hi Vera,
Right? I wonder if organic chemistry will start to make sense after a couple of cocktails. Who knows, maybe I missed my calling!
What classes are you taking?

they look pretty but noting major such as Vendetta. Then again I haven’t spent the last two years pining for a dark dark purple polish so…
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
I know, right? Every time I bust out the Vendetta I still get a little sweaty, LOL!
Alison says
I always love the Chanel polishes (I have mentioned before that I collect them), but unfortunatly for me my skin tone does not suit these types of colours, I do not tan, ever! So colours like this always look awful on me, i would love to be able to wear orange fizz but know I can’t pull it off. I might check out golden sand but only cos it’s LE.
Can’t wait for the celestial lights though, cosmic violine looks like it may get me all excited the way vendetta and tulip noir do!
Karen says
Hi Alison,
Me too! I suspect I’ll fall in love with everything from that release. 🙂
Daya says
Orange Fizz is beautiful but not for $23. I picked up OPI’s On Collins Ave. (a kind of bright red) today. That will have to feed my nail polish habit for now 🙂
Karen says
Hi Daya,
Sounds pretty. 🙂 You can never go wrong with bright reds, especially for spring and summer. 🙂
Jan says
Hi Karen,
I might try some others. My lips tend to be on the dry side and this is one of the few products that has staying power and doesn’t dry my lips out. They have one of their regional artists coming May 1, so I’m thinking of making an appointment. Could be dangerous for my credit card, though, but sounds like fun.
Tanny says
The very last Chanel colour, the Golden Sand, reminds me exactly of my ELF’s polish in Blush. Here’s a photo below, sorry i don’t have a swatch.

Hi Karen, I think that Golden sand looks a lot like MAC – Metalist (from the Neo sci fi collection). What do you think?
Hugs!
Wendy
Karen says
Hi Wenvers,
Ah, I remember that shade. It does look similar — might be a touch on the peachier side, but yah, they are very much alike.
I loved the Neo Sci Fi release! It was one of my faves from last year.

Hey,
I just couln’t resist leaving a reply. When I first read ‘have you ever lost your sense of balance upon seeing a new Chanel nail polish’ I imediately remembered the only time it happened. And guess what – it was vandeta!!! How weird and awsome is that? Me and my friend literally went whoa!!! and put our hands to our mouths. It was simply gorgeous, of course I have it.
So big cheers for this article/post, I love Chanel and there is no other brand that has this wow effect and original ideas for nail colours.
