The Swedish actress turned director takes €6,000 award for her Norwegian feature debut Blindspot.

A few days earlier the film’s main actress Pia Tjelta had picked up San Sebastian’s Silver Shell for her role of a mother, trying to cope with the loss of her daughter, victim of mental illness.

CPH PIX’s international jury consisting of producer Tatiana Leite (Brazil), directors Joachim Lafosse (Belgium) and Jesper Ganslandt (Sweden) said their unanimous decision was taken because of Novotny’s ‘boldness of exploring cinema aesthetically, creating a remarkable narrative, approaching a taboo theme with conscience, and going deeper into its complexity through its family ties.” Blindspot was produced by Nordisk Film Production Norway with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

The New Talent Grand Pix Special Mention award went to Danish newcomer Rasmus Kloster Bro for his genre film Cutterhead, while the BUSTER Best Children’s Film award was handed out to his colleague Anders Walter (Oscar winner 2013-Best Short Live Action) for his US fantasy film I Kill Giants.

Denmark’s largest feature film festival opened on September 26 with Lars von Trier’s The House that Jack Built and closes on October 6 with Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cold War. Other awards to be handed out on Saturday include the new Politiken Talent Prize for first-time Danish directors and the PIX Audience Award.
