The Miners will hold their home European matches in Germany this season

Shakhtar will play their home matches of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage in Hamburg (Germany) at the Volksparkstadion. The Donetsk club reached a corresponding agreement with Hamburger SV, with UEFA giving its permission for this.

Dmytro Kyrylenko, Shakhtar-Service LLC CEO:

– First of all, we want to thank Warsaw and Polish people for the support they gave us during the matches of the previous European season in Poland. We considered the possibility of hosting the Champions League home games among several options for the new season and we settled on Hamburg. We are sure that the matches at the Volksparkstadion will be held at the highest level and will gather in the stands both local football fans and thousands of Ukrainians who are currently temporarily living in Germany and other European countries.

Dr. Eric Huwer, Hamburger SV Board Member:

– We are very happy to support Shakhtar and glad that Hamburg will be the venue for top international matches. In terms of infrastructure and organization, we can offer Shakhtar our knowledge and experience required for the Champions League. We made special efforts to be appropriate partners in terms of social responsibility in the city of Hamburg due to the difficult circumstances that the Ukrainian champions and their country in general have to deal with.

Information

Volksparkstadion, a stadium in the Bahrenfeld district in the west of Hamburg, is the home ground of HSV playing currently in the 2. Bundesliga. The capacity of the stadium during international matches is 51,500 (during the Bundesliga matches the capacity is 57,000 due to the allowed standing sections). The arena was constructed in 1953 and completely rebuilt according to the project of architect Gustav Oelsner in 1998. Previously, the stadium was called AOL Arena and was the ground for the 2006 FIFA World Cup matches in Germany. The Volksparkstadion hosted the first-ever UEFA Europa League final in 2010, as well as the 2011 World Title fight between Volodymyr Klychko and David Haye. Volksparkstadion has been announced as the arena for the 2024 UEFA European Championship games in Germany.

The dates and procedure for selling Champions League tickets and packages for Shakhtar's home matches in Hamburg will be announced in the near future. The fixtures will be known after the Champions League group stage draw on August 31.
