Chaetodon xanthocephalus

Chaetodon xanthocephalus, commonly known as the Yellowhead butterflyfish, is a medium-sized butterflyfish. Their body is white a few thin blueish lines on it forming wide V-shapes facing backwards. The dorsal and anal fin are variable from orange to brown and reddish. They always have a yellow rim on it and their head and pelvic fins are also yellow (to orangish in some fish).

These fish are usually not aggressive towards other fish, but are usually to other Chaetodon. They usually live solitary but small groups are sometimes formed around isolated coral heads.  In an aquarium they can best be kept alone, unless a proven pair can be found. They're omnivores feeding on small invertebrates and algae, but they're also facultative corallivores, meaning they do eat coral polyps, but don't need corals to survive. This makes them a risk in a reef tank, but a perfect pick for a fish-only tank! Feed them a varied diet of live and frozen meaty foods, supplemented with a high quality algae flake or pellet to make them thrive!
