Manchester United are poised to make a lot of changes at Old Trafford - but it's not just on the pitch that the Red Devils are hoping to see a transformation.

The Premier League outfit have announced that they are pushing on with plans to redevelop their home for the first time since 2006.

The last expansion saw an increase of 8,000 seats after the north-west and north-east quadrants were given second tiers

According to the Daily Mail, the works will provide an 'overdue upgrade' to the corporate facilities and increase the ground's capacity in a project costing more than £200million.

The Theatre of Dreams current capacity sits at 74,140, and with 100,000 fans on the season ticket waiting list, there is demand for the club to expand their current attendance figures.

Should the revamp go ahead, Old Trafford will become the third biggest football ground in Europe at 88,000 - falling short to Wembley Stadium (90,000) and Barcelona's Camp Nou (99,354).

The changes to the Red Devils' home will also see the stadium surpass the likes of Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park (81,359) and Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu (81,044).

It's understood that the expansion will come from extending the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand, the ground's south stand.

United also recently announced that the multi-million-pound job will be completed by the same developers that worked on Tottenham's impressive new stadium, built between 2016 and 2019.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium cost the club £1billion in total, and has been labelled as one of the best grounds English fans have seen.
