It is important to report that the first author spent 20 years in French Guiana, gathering all the collecting data from more than 700 collectors and concluding that Colobothea hirtipes ( Degeer, 1775) appears to be the most common species of the genus (218 collecting data representing 348 specimens, of which 48.2% are males). This species is related to many identified host plants, belonging to several botanic families:
Acosmium nitens (J. Vogel) Yakovlev [ Fabaceae ], Scott Mori 23644;
Aiouea guianensis Aublet [ Lauraceae ], Georges Cremers 11372;
Avicennia germinans (Linné) Stearn [ Verbenaceae ], Michel Hoff det.;
Chaunochiton kappleri (Sagot ex Engler) Ducke [Olocaceae], Denis Loubry 1798;
Conceveiba guianensis Aublet [ Euphorbiaceae ], Daniel Sabatier 1447;
Gnetum paniculatum Spruce ex Bentham [ Gnetaceae ], Scott Mori 23581;
Gnetum sp. [ Gnetaceae ], Denis Loubry 1805;
Machaerium sp. [ Fabaceae ], Denis Loubry 1815;
Maripa sp. [ Convolvulaceae ], Scott Mori 23592;
Paramachaerium ormosioides (Ducke) Ducke [ Fabaceae ], Denis Loubry 1870;

Pterocarpus officinalis N. J. Jacquin [ Fabaceae ], Denis Loubry 1382;
Pterocarpus officinalis N. J. Jacquin [ Fabaceae ], Denis Loubry 1366;

Swartzia polyphylla A. de Candolle [ Caesalpiniaceae ], Denis Loubry 1735;
Swartzia polyphylla A. P. de Candolle [ Caesalpiniaceae ], Scott Mori 23594;
Xylopia sericea Saint-Hilaire [ Annonaceae ], Christian Feuillet 2313.
Adults of C. hirtipes show cathemeral activity throughout the year with a small peak in August-September.
