ABSTRACT Obesity is capturing the whole world very rapidly. Both medical community and common people are aware of the health risks associated with obesity. Different phytochemicals present in medicinal plant parts have antiobesity properties. The antiobesity properties of medicinal plants are exhibited by different mechanisms. There are different studies for exactly knowing the cause of animal obesity. A new scientific approach about the present situation of this disease may initiate additional research in the field to assess the contribution of phytochemicals in obesity and possibly to prevent or treat the widespread epidemic of obesity. This review will try to focus and summarize on the main findings available in the literature regarding the effect of different medicinal plants and their extracts on human obesity. In this paper we review the present knowledge in the field as this may be of importance to those who deal with research on antiobesity for the benefit of the common people. Keywords: Obesity, adipocytes medicinal plants, phytochemicals, hypolipidemia, hypercholesterolemia.

ROLE OF PHYTOCHEMICALS IN HUMAN PHYSIOLOGICAL DISORDERS.2020 •
ABSTRACT Globally, millions of people are being affected by the most complicated and morbid diseases like diabetes and obesity. Some of them suffer a lot and some lose their cherished life due to these. When the body contains high blood glucose level, it causes the disease diabetes. May be it is due to deficiency or absence of insulin, or genetics comes into play, or due to other reasons like stress, obesity, eating habit, etc. Likewise, obesity is a serious ailment that is caused by the excessive body fat and this study aimed the effect of Ocimum sanctum on diabetes and obesity. In India it is known as Tulsi, which is the most sacred plant that is worshipped by the Hindus. From the ancient studies this plant is known to be used as a very excellent medication for many diseases and it is an excellent air purifying plant too. The various major phytochemicals found here like the eugenol, arvacrol, linalool, caryophylline, β-sitosterol, triterpenoid (16-hydroxy-4,4,10,13-tetramethyl-17-(4-methyl-pentyl)- hexadecahydro-cyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-3-one) are of great medicinal value that helps in the improvement of these morbid conditions. As compared to the chemical medication and injection, it has barely any side effect, cheap and can be effortlessly available in everyone's home in India. The extraction of this plant has been studied to cure the diseases like skin diseases, respiratory problems, obesity, psychological stress, heart disease, fever, common cold, diabetes, microbial and inflammatory diseases etc. There is a very little investigation on its study related to obesity and most of the people are unknown to this plant and its benefits. So, here this study includes how this sacred plant “Ocimum” acts as a traditional medicine and helps in the treatment of diabetes and obesity in a natural way where this paper has aimed to study the numerous bioactive chemical compounds in Ocimum and its role. KEYWORDS: Tulsi, diabetes, obesity, bioactive compounds
