(2015) Phytochemical properties and ethno-botanical Potentials of Thonningia sanguinea (Vahl) for the Management/Cure of some common ailments. Nigerian Journal of Forestry 45 (1) 9-15 Abstract The ethno-botanical potentials of Thonningia sanguinea were investigated through its phytochemical screening. The specific objectives wereto provide adequate information that will serve as a basis for scientific research and to sensitize the populace on the usefulness of this plant especially in the management and cure of asthma. The phytochemical screening of both airdried and sundried samples revealed the presence of alkaloids, saponin, phenol, glycosides, tannin, terpenes and phlobotannin, while anthraquinones, cardenolides, flavonoid and chalcones were completely absent. Also, sundried samples showed higher quantitative values than air dried samples in the quantitative determination of the phytochemicals. This study revealed the potentials of this plant in the formulation of alternative therapy for the treatment of asthma wound and blood treatment. It could serve as antioxidant, anticancer, antimicrobial, analgestic, antispasmodic, bactericidal, cytotoxicity and salmonellosis. It therefore provides detailed empirical information regarding the phytochemistry of T. sanguinea for local medicine practitioners as well as for local people using this herb for a variety of body disorders.
Pet ether and Ethanol solvent was used to extract the roots, stem-bark and leaves of three indigenous plant Alstonia boonei, Mimosa pudica and Sansevieria transfica locally reputed for their treatment of asthma. Ethanol has higher % of extract. The extract were phytochemically screened and tested for their biological activity against Staphylococcus aureus (bacteria) and Aspergillius niger (fungi). The phytochemical test showed that both the ethanol and petroleum ether extracts contain bio-active agent. The petroleum ether extracts of Alstonia boonei, Sanseviera transfica and Mimosa pudica shows inhibition zones against staphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus niger.

Asthma, issue of the respiratory system in which the entries that empower air to go into and out of the lungs occasionally limited, causing hacking, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Asthma is one in every of the foremost common chronic diseases in fashionable society and it's evident that its incidence and severity are increasing, but little is thought concerning the plants utilized in the management of the sickness. The current study is an approach to find some cheap treatment for asthma. Herbs have been utilized from the early human advancement on wards as a medication for a wide range of disease. Disregarding the improvement in the health science and creation of modern synthetic drugs, plants still involve an essential part in the modern and traditional system of medicine in everywhere throughout the world. Asthma is well recorded in the primitive Ayurvedic texts. In Sanskrit, asthma is known as Svasaroga, Svasa means " breathing in and out, " and roga means " disease. " According to the ancient Ayurvedic text, the Charak Samhita, there are five types of Asthma: Mahasvasa, Urdhvasvasa, Chinnasvasa, tamakasvasa and Ksudrasvasa. Amongst these 5 kinds first 3 aren't curable. 'Tamak-shwas is controllable and is difficult to remedy. The ultimate one is curable. To find the answer of different medicinal plants used for asthma we carried out a survey among the different Ayurvedic physician available in Bhubaneswar city as well as different medicine inhabitants. During interviewed or consulted about 36 doctors and 13 medicine inhabitants in the town from which 26 accepted to give a response during survey. We prepared a questionnaire to know the views of their treatment on asthma. The results are very much encouraging and help in treatment of asthma.
