Movie star Jayne Mansfield and notorious Satanist Anton LaVey met in 1966. Both were publicity conscious and made the most of the meetings, which evolved into a friendship. Almost always present was German paparazzo Walter Fischer, stationed in Hollywood and catering to image- and scandal-hungry photo magazines all over the world.

Fischer's unique collection of photos takes us straight into the ritual chamber of the Church of Satan in LaVey's infamous "black house" in San Francisco, as well as into Mansfield's Hollywood "pink palace." We also get to follow LaVey on excursions to his friend Forrest "Famous Monsters of Filmland" Ackerman, to Marilyn Monroe's grave, to TV studios and back, to Satanic weddings and Zeena's baptism at the Church of Satan HQ.

These were wild and narcissistic times in America. Few understood the power of media exposure better than Jayne Mansfield and Anton LaVey. Captured alone or together by master paparazzo Fischer, this devilishly handsome couple made headlines that still resonate today. The book contains an introduction by legendary filmmaker Kenneth Anger, and forewords by writer Carl Abrahamsson and collector Alf Wahlgren.

I had been after this book for a long time, last year or so. Kenneth Anger, that master of sleaze he pretends is occult mastery, always amuses me, and I have a lot of photography books already, so why not another.

The price of this has kept creeping up, which has forced me to buy it before it goes up once more, and it is still a good buy for the money, I would say.

The images are repetitive and more posed in the style of press shots, with Anton in full regalia surrounded by naked witches along with Jayne in a mini dress smiling demurely. Few in words, but I have a lot of Robert Mapplethorpe books that are precisely the same, so there is no issue there beyond the fact Robert is a brilliant photographer and not a press hack.

Worth a flick through, but unless you are a collector or a die-hard fan best to borrow it from the library.

First off I will say its a very fascinating unusual book that shows, on 4 pages in words and rest on the totally strange relationship between Jane Mansfield and Anton Lavey as,I never knew Jane was,a Satanist well I kinda was, interested in this book since it very different and kinda interesting seeing what was,photographed during time when Anton Lavey had behind private doors to his home ppl that don't dress,no different then us today but you never expect these ppl omg to be Satanist well photos are cool and then shows Anton with Jane at some point heap!He Anton placed a curse on Sam Brodey her husband which was,in one chapter not by words, but only photo took stating on Laveys curse towards, Sam then sadly funeral for Jane well kinda, strange whole family died tradically her child husband then Jane well dunno if it was,real curse but as,I'm told Anton placed it on Sam because of his entering one room not was,told to touch his Skull candle well since he Sam did so Anton was,so upset that after Jane insisted she was,tried of Sam her abuse,by this husband her attorney husband since Sam had broke violated rule when you enter The Black House in San Francisco Ca it rule nobody goes,in one certain room touches especially his Skull candle well Anton in pit of anger and because,Sam broke his houses rule this why strange curse was placed apon Sam but Jane got car and all of them child Jane's Sam her attorney husband and Jane all died due to unusual curse placed all because Sam did something very stupid well again during fog lastly being so heavy the accident was so bad crushes like can and Janes,head because of accident was severed cut off in heavy fog car,Sam was driving well again yes strangley Anton has it written down one part of this book and stated it would eventually take place on certain day date well kinda weird say the least bit to think Jane pleaded with Anton to get rid of Sam since she was,love with Anton and had up to here with her abuse by Sam bad,relationship and marriage basically falling apart well dunnon again if it curse or act of god but just very weird and is in this book too as stated wrote on piece of paper of Anton's Curse, towards,Sam Janes husband well the book besides this photos but only 4 pages has,words rest only photos still has,seen to very great coffee table book as,why I got it hey kinda,fascinating but truly strange book of two peas,inn pod and unusual but kinda,interesting too see in photos the relationship between Jane and Anton Lavey as,was,more for collecting kinda, strange too see naked women in few photo see what was,acutually going on very unusual during time when it Nevers known Jane Mansfield was,a,Satanist nobody knew, like Sammy Davis Jr oh too bad because,only thing left out of photo book for only 4 pages in words nothing else but photos which are done very nicely they should of put a,photo of Anton Lavey with close friendship with Sammy Davis,Jr would been nice to see it this only thing they forget to put in this book other then that it very interesting book well done and has,good photos too funny what was,going on back in day in the Church Of Satan in San Francisco Ca it era,were it will never be repeated again well book is fascinating yet a,collectable worth buying if your into unusual Hollywood celeb things only reason why I bought it was,just too good pass up on it and very interesting again to say nothing too bad about it well photographed book on California Infernal again if your into this sort of thing especially looking to collect something different buy this book California Infernal because, it very different book by all means worth buying but not for everyone either only if you like collecting Hollywood Celeb things as,I do but still excellent book again tu for reading this,review on California,Infernal my book review on it again thank you
