What do flowers symbolize in Buddhism?

A closed bud, represents the period before enlightenment. A full blooming flower, whose beauty is admired by many, signifies enlightenment. While not admired by many, a withered flower represents the end of a cycle and the beginning of a brand new cycle. The mud and soil, which nourishes the root of the plant and grow the flower, represents the muddy and messy human lives. Therefore, a flowering plant tells us that it is by going through the ups and downs in (the filthy) lives that we cultivate enlightenment. There's a saying that life is a cycle where we come naked (or empty handed) and we go naked (or empty handed). What lessons have we learnt from life?

Flowers and nature also remind me of the Buddhist teaching of impermanence.
What we see or have today maybe gone tomorrow. We should treasure the goodness of everyday and give thanks to all the people we met and the things that happened to us regardless of good or bad.

Love nature. Embrace a minimalist lifestyle. No Greed.
