One of the more complicated, controversial figures to emerge in the ’80s, Traci Lords successfully transitioned from adult movies to a mainstream acting career with roles in John Waters’ Cry-Baby and TV shows like Roseanne, Married…with Children, Melrose Place, Gilmore Girls, Will & Grace and more. Along the way, Lords revealed a flair for music, too, hitting No. 2 on Dance Club Songs in 1995 with “Control” and most recently earning a No. 4 hit on that chart with “Last Drag.”
Now, and just in time for her 50th birthday, Lords is back in the musical groove with the sensuous, whispery synth jam “Come Alive” — and today, Billboard is premiering its lyric video.

“I released ‘Come Alive’ in celebration of my 50th birthday. My fans have been asking for new music for a long time and this was my way of inviting them all to my party!” Lords says. “I wrote the song with Ted Bruner who also produced it. It has a dance club sound but moves into a pop/rock direction with electronic elements and beats. The sultry vocals pull you into a world of whispers and rhythms. This song is about the struggle to satisfy cravings. It’s about wanting to be in control but losing to stronger temptations.”
This isn’t a one-off from the actress-model-singer, either.
“It feels great to be recording again,” Lords sys. “It’s stirred up my hunger to write again as well, and I’m excited to see where it leads me creatively, as this summer I’ll be heading into the studio with Adam Barta to work on an EP with Waverly | Grace Records (under The Orchard). Jordan Von Haslow is producing along with Electropoint. You can expect sexy dance music from this team.”
