Hi, i'm very much a newbie here and am having a persistent problem with my pc....

I usualy spend around twenty minutes trying to get it to boot and it's driving me crazy.

The PC boots up 90% of the way and then throws this at me....

 STOP0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0X830AF2C3,0x9142361C,0x00000000)

I Googled for clues but it very confusing when you don't have much of a clue.....at first I thought it ws graphics card related......now i'm thinking it's the memory....but to be honest i'm guessing.

Im running an HP Pavillion A6355

Many Many Thanks

Hi

:welcome: to the bleeping computer forums

Please follow the below steps.

:step1: Check whether you can boot the system in safe mode.

To enter in to the safe mode, keep pressing F8 until you see an advanced startup menu. Choose safe mode from it. Report whether you can boot the system successfully.

windows-7-f8.jpg

:step2: Test your system memory thoroughly using the free tool Memtest86+

Follow  instructions from the below link and run memtest86+ for at lease 7 or more passes. It will take several hours so please be patient until it finishes.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

The more time you run it, more accurate will be the result. If you are getting any red lines or numbers other than zero in the errors column, you got a memory issue.

Below video will help you understand the test better.

Please report your findings after running the memtest for several hours.

Many Thanks for your reply ...

Ive followed your advice and downloaded the util, ive ran it twice for 10 hours at a time and it shows nothing..... Should I be removing any of the memory modules...The PC has 2 x 1GB Chip....and 2 x 512 K .....3 GB in total......

The BSOD still appears every now and again, but not when Im running the Memtest prog.....obviously nothing else in the PC has fired up whilst im running it,,

Could it be graphics card related ?

Again....all help much appreciated.

Hi

I assume you didn't get any errors during the test (7 passes minimum ). You will see red lines in the screens in case of a RAM failure.

Like this :

errorkd.jpg

If the memory appears to be okay in the test, please follow the below steps to collect the basic data required to analyze the reason behind the crash. You can do the below steps from safe mode .

:step1: Upload the crash dumps for analysis

Open C:\Windows\Minidump folder. Copy and  zip the entire contents of that folder and upload to any free file hosting site of your choice. You may have to disable UAC to copy them.

Example file hosting sites :

Post the download link to the dumps in next reply.

:step2:  A Minitoolbox log

Download Minitoolbox from the below link.

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
-List users, partition and memory size
    -List minidumps

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply  (or upload the result.txt with dump files)

Hi

Crash dumps indicates Avast antivirus as the possible reason for crash. Please follow the below steps.

:step1: Boot system in to safe mode.

:step2: Download and run Avast cleaning tool from the below link.

 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/aswclear.exe

Run the tool and select Avast free version 8 from the drop down menu. Click Remove to uninstall Avast.

:step3: Uninstall IOBit Malware fighter.

Open Control Panel --> Programs and uninstall "IOBit Malware fighter" from there. It as an absolute bloatware and known to cause various issues to the system.

BC highly recommends to stay away from IOBit products including malware fighter, advanced system care etc.

Report whether you can boot in to the normal mode.

Hi Anshad,

Ive done as you said and cleared out Avast and IOBit....

I'll watch how things progress and report back.......

Im concious that I don't have any protection now so I think I will obtain AVG free version. If you know any better/more reliable then let me know.

Many many thanks for your invaluable help.

Regards

Dave

Hi

From a strict BSOD perspective, security and reliability, we recommends Microsoft Security Essentials as the main antivirus. Get it from the below link.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=5201

As an on demand second opinion scanner, install Malwarebytes free also. Download link is given below.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware/

While installing MBAM, uncheck the option to start free trail.

Scan your PC with MSE , MBAM and superantispyware programs ( separately ) once in a week. This combination will give you world's best and reliable protection for free.

Hi

You should not run two antivirus program at the same time. It will cause a race condition between the two and may leads to freezes, hangs or blue screens. Please remove AVG immediately and  keep only MSE and Malwarebytes

Download and run AVG 2013 removal tool to completely remove AVG without leaving remnants.

http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avgrem/avg_remover_stf_x86_2013_3341.exe

The Combination of MSE and MBAM will provide you a better protection than any other antivirus software offers. Make sure to run a full scan with both programs ( separately) one in a week.
