Description

The first Mickey Mouse toy manufactured by the George Borgfeldt Corporation in 1930.Made of wood, leatherette and rope. Head, hands, arms and legs are jointed and when Mickey's tail is pushed down his head rises up. The 71/2"figure is marked "C. 1928-1930 by WALTER E. DISNEY. DES. PAT. APD. FOR".
The original sketch design by early Disney artist "Bert" Gillett can be seen in DISNEYANA and WALT DISNEY COLLECTIBLES by Cecil Munsey, Hawthorn Books, New York, 1974, p49. Also found in WALT DISNEY'S MICKEY MOUSE MEMORABILIA, Harry N. Abrams Publisher, New York, 1986, p10.
My example belonged to Marjorie (Norton)Ralston. She was the head inker and first female voice (1929)for Minnie Mouse. She joined the Walt Disney animation team as an inker, the thirteenth employee to be hired, where she worked for nearly thirteen years.
