MIAMI, Florida – In any team sport, especially in football, every member of the squad is key to delivering great results. The goalkeeper position is one that always has the attention of every fan, and Mexican Pamela Tajonar knows how to handle this pressure, succeeding in Mexico, Spain and now in Scotland playing for Celtic FC.

This legendary player, at 38 years old, keeps breaking records and setting the bar high. She signed with one of the Scottish giants back in August of 2022 after being a leader in Spanish side Villareal, and playing a key part for FC Barcelona a few years prior her move.

However, Tajonar is a name that is associated with many clubs in her career, proving that a goalkeeper can move around as much as any other position in football. From starting in her country, playing for Club Alianza and then Club Puebla, she crossed the Atlantic to Europe at a very young age, proving that hard work pays off.

Playing in Spain for Malaga, Levante Las Planas and Sevilla, she showed her talent and ultimately was able to join Spanish and European giants FC Barcelona in 2018. Her name will stand alongside Maribel Dominguez, Rafael Marquez and Kenti Robles as the only Mexicans to play for the first team of the Catalonian club.

She also showed her skills wearing the El Tricolor jersey, being part of the Mexican Women’s National Team in the Under-19 category back in 2002. Her name has always been one to remember when people talk about Mexican women’s football, more so in the last few years.

After her stay in Spain, in 2022, another adventure awaited her in Europe, this time in Scotland, when she signed with Celtic. This club is no stranger to scouting international talent to help them achieve their goals, and they looked to Tajonar to cover their goal area and become a leader on the pitch.

And so she did. Tajonar started in the most important games of the season for Celtic, the latest coming against rivals Glasgow City Football Club of the Scottish Women Premier League, in which Tajonar’s side downed the current leaders 3-1. The result wasn’t the only thing that lifted the fans, as the match broke attendance records in the country as the most attended game in a women’s league match with over 10,000 people in the stands.

The season is not over yet for Celtic and Tajonar, as they will aim to break more records and set the bar even higher when it comes to women’s football in Scotland. Thanks to her display of skills and talent, her legacy continues to grow between Mexico and Europe.
