About the Apple iPod® Hi-Fi
Get rich, room-filling sound from your iPod with this elegantly simple powered speaker system from Apple. The iPod Hi-Fi combines advanced audio design with clean, uncluttered good looks. Each of the two wide-range drivers has its own sealed internal chamber for crisp, defined mids and highs. The woofer employs a separate, ported chamber for full, warm bass. The system's double-walled construction helps minimize unwanted vibrations.
A built-in dock automatically charges your iPod while it plays. Ten different adapters are included so you can use any docking iPod from the first generation 5GB players up to the latest video iPods. With the provided remote, you can control your iPod from across the room. The iPod Hi-Fi also has an auxiliary audio input that lets you hook up other kinds of portable music players. It also doubles as a digital input for Apple's Airport Express, which can stream music wirelessly from your computer.
Using an iPod nano or a video iPod with the system gives you extra playback options. You can set your player's screen to remain backlit to view track information or album art. You can even call up the iPod Hi-Fi's EQ settings menu on your player's screen to adjust the system's sound.
And you can enjoy the music anywhere. The iPod Hi-Fi can be powered with six "D" cell batteries, so you can move it out to the patio for a party. Built-in handles make the system easy to carry. And if your iPod's low on power, the iPod Hi-Fi will charge your player for up to 30 minutes while running on batteries.

Product Overview: The iPod Hi-Fi is a portable powered speaker system designed specifically for the Apple iPods. The iPod mounts into a dock connector well on the top of the speaker using one of the ten included dock adapters. The docking station will also recharge the iPod's battery. An auxiliary input on the back lets you connect other components. A wireless remote gives you access to basic controls. You can also control playback via the iPod's screen and scroll wheel.
iPod Adapters: The Hi-fi includes ten adapters for various size iPods:
- 10, 15, and 20 GB with scroll wheel and transport buttons above
- 30 and 40 GB with scroll wheel and transport buttons above
- 4 and 6 GB mini
- 20 GB and U2 Special Edition with click wheel
- 40 GB
- 20 GB, 30GB, and U2 Special Edition with color display
- 40 GB and 60 GB with color display
- 2 GB and 4 GB Nano

- 60 GB with video
Analog and Digital Auxiliary Input: The Hi-Fi features a 3.5mm minijack auxiliary input on the rear panel so you can use iPods without dock connectors or other brand sources. The auxiliary input will accept analog or optical digital signals. If an iPod and another source are connected simultaneously, the default input is the iPod. You can switch to the other source using the included remote without removing your iPod.
Speakers: Within its double wall enclosure the iPod Hi-Fi features three speaker cones custom designed to provide balanced sound across the frequency range. The two 80mm (3.15") wide-range cones are mounted in dedicated sealed chambers, providing mid and high frequencies that sound vivid and bright. The natural bass of iPod Hi-Fi is generated by a 130mm (5.12") dual voice coil woofer. The Hi-Fi uses two front firing ports to enhance the woofer's bass response.
Power Options: This unit can be operated using AC power or 6 "D" batteries (not supplied).
Remote: The only controls on the speaker system are volume up and down. A wireless remote control is included which offers basic iPod controls; volume up/down, skip forward/backward, search forward/backward within the song, play/pause, and menu. The controls on the iPod also work while connected to the Hi-Fi. The remote is powered by a CR2025 Lithium battery (supplied), dimensions are; Length: 3.370", Width: 1.263", Height: 0.343".
Extra Controls: The Hi-Fi adds a couple of extra controls to the main menu of some newer iPods. A tone control offers three settings; normal, treble boost, and bass boost so you can adjust the music to suit the room. Display controls allow you to show oversized album art and leave the display back lighting on while playing.
Battery Charge: The iPod's battery is charged if connected when power is supplied to the Hi-Fi. This is also true when the Hi-Fi is powered by the 6 "D" batteries, so if you want to save the batteries for portable use it's a good idea to disconnect the iPod when not in use.
Non-Slip Pad: A surface-gripping rubber pad covers most of the bottom of the Hi-Fi to provide a stable platform on most surfaces.
Top Panel:
- Dock Connector Well: dock connector that interfaces with your iPod using one of the included adapters
Back Panel:
- Analog Input: stereo 3.5mm mini-jack
- Optical Digital Input: 3.5mm mini-jack (same jack as analog input)
- AC In: use with supplied AC cord
Width: 17 inches
Height: When an iPod is connected to the dock on the top of the Hi-Fi, it mounts at an angle and adds to the 6.738 inch speaker height. The resulting height depends on which iPod you have.
Depth: When using the AC power cord 1.275 inches is added to the depth for a total of 8.246 inches. When using the auxiliary input on the back the depth increases by the external length of the auxiliary plug.
Weight:
- Without batteries: 14.5 lbs
- With batteries: 16.7 lbs

Not only elegant/matching to the iPod(white finish), surprisingly big on sound, nice mid bass and decent highs (treble). Put together nicely by Apple. Only flaw, they should have included a cover for safekeeping so the docking station doesnt get dirty as well as whole unit.
