Government offices — city, county, federal and state — and superior courts, libraries and schools are normally closed for New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.

Here’s a sampling of government offices and other services that are closed or have altered schedules.

Banks: Banks and financial markets are closed.

Libraries: Patrons of Los Angeles Public libraries that are “Library to Go” locations close at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 (www.lapl.org/library-to-go). Los Angeles County libraries with “Sidewalk Services” for books held for pickup (lacountylibrary.org/express-service) may close early on Dec. 31. Mail: The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver mail. www.usps.com; www.usps.com/holiday/holiday-schedule.htm

Transit: Buses and subway services in Los Angeles run on a holiday/Sunday schedule (www.metro.net). More information on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day schedules and fares here: bit.ly/3myv3B7. Metrolink: The Ventura County Line trains do not run. The Antelope Valley Line runs on a Sunday schedule (metrolinktrains.com/schedules/holiday-schedule; metrolinktrains.com/schedules/new-years-day).

Trash: No trash is picked up in Los Angeles (800-773-2489; www.lacitysan.org) and Glendale (818-548-3916; bit.ly/3p1In2D) on Jan. 1. Friday’s trash is picked up on Saturday, Jan. 2. Trash is picked up on a regular schedule in Burbank (818-238-3800; bit.ly/2PN6qjR).
