La Cité des Parfums, headed by Veronique Coty, great-granddaughter of the great François Coty, has announced a limited edition of Spoturno 1921. Spoturno is François Coty's real name. The formula for this fragrance was created in 1921, found in the archives of the perfumer.
The Grasse company Parfum Cosmetic World France, led by Patrice Blaizot, helped adapt the formula to modern ingredients and release the perfume.
Exceptional raw materials were used in this unique restoration: jasmine from Egypt, ylang-ylang from the Comoros, orange blossom from Tunisia, white sandalwood from Australia, vetiver from Haiti, patchouli from Indonesia, and tonka from Venezuela among other ingredients.
According to the creator, the perfume is "a generous floral, vanilla, powdery bouquet. A feminine fragrance, enveloping, optimistic and luminous."
From the official website Spoturno 1921:
The crispness of bergamot and lemon is complemented by the fresh aromatic powdery touch of lavender. Clean spicy caraway leads into the floral heart of the fragrance. In the heart, there is a rich, sensual, feminine, addictive floral bouquet with extracts of jasmine blossoms, ylang-ylang, rose, violet and orange blossoms. A warm accord of soft wood – sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli – rests on a powdery bed of heliotrope, tonka beans, vanilla and musk.
Spoturno 1921 is available as extrait de parfum in 100 ml bottles. Special mention should be made of the bottles: this time La Cité des Parfums has prepared something special.
The design copies the silhouette of one of the antique bottles once created by Lalique specifically for Coty. The stopper is decorated not with a relief pattern, as in the historical prototype, but with a white flower recessed in the thickness of transparent smooth glass. The designer of this spectacular stopper is the renowned master glassblower Adrian Colin. The bottles are manufactured by Waltersperger.
Spoturno 1921 is available in two packaging options. The first is a simple rectangular box made of green cardboard. The second is a white gold-colored double altar box decorated with an emerald patina print. This luxurious design was created by Tristan Auer, a famous interior decorator awarded as Designer of the Year in 2017.
A total of 220 numbered bottles of the Spoturno 1921 were produced: 20 bottles in altar boxes at the price of 5,000 euros and 200 bottles in simple boxes at a price of 1,400 euros.
You can buy Spoturno 1921 on the official site of La Cité des Parfums

Whether it would be a simulacrum or not, I would love it if someone would create an affordable recreation of Coty's Chypre. I am so curious to see what it smelled like, even if it's just a recreation. I guess I'll have to visit the Osmetheque someday...
