Besiktas goalkeeper Loris Karius was at the centre of attention on Thursday night after he gifted Slovan Bratislava the lead in Thursday's Europa League clash.
The 26-year-old, who is on loan at the Turkish club from Liverpool, committed a giant blunder when he came rushing out of his box and attempted to head the ball clear.
Instead, however, he failed to make a clean connection and ended up knocking over Besiktas centre-back Rebocho, allowing Bratislava striker Andraz Sporar to pass into the empty net and give his side the lead just 14 minutes into the match.
The incident may have been an embarrassing one for the German shot stopper, but he was eventually bailed out by his team-mates as Besiktas recovered to take the lead before half-time, though Sporar went on to level matters again in the second-half.
Adem Ljajic pulled the Turkish side level with a penalty just before the half-hour mark and then Bratislava captain Vasil Bozhikov turned Georges-Kévin Nkoudou's cross into his own net, ensuring Karius was not the only player left with a red face.
But the incident is just the latest of many stunning blunders the goalkeeper has made in recent years.Â
The memory of his horror show for Liverpool in the 2017-18Â Champions League final, when his throw bounced off the leg of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and into the net.
He was then parried a long-range effort from Gareth Bale into his own net as his side lost 3-1.
The performance cost the former Mainz star his place in the squad, as Liverpool signed Alisson to take over as the first choice keeper and Karius was then loaned to Besiktas for two years.
But the mistake on Thursday was not his first in Besiktas colours, as he was heavily criticised for his performance in a 3-2 win against Konyaspor in May.
He gave away the equaliser less than 20 minutes into the game when he failed to make what appeared to be a routine save.
Not only was he jeered for the rest of the game by Besiktas supporters, but coach Senol Gunes went on to say that "something is wrong" with Karius.
"He was at fault for the goals he conceded," Gunes said. "Karius has gone a bit stagnant, something is wrong with his electricity, motivation, enthusiasm for the game.
"It has been like that since the beginning. He does not really feel a part of the team."
Karius had made 38 appearances for Besiktas before Thursday's clash, conceding 53 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.
