Strandvallen was built in the early 1950s and the first ever match was played 28th June 1953 against German side Germania Leer. The ground is situated in the fishing village of Hällevik and only some 100 yards from the Baltic Sea. After gaining promotion to Allsvenskan in 2010 a new stand was built behind the goal  meaning the capacity nowdays is around 7,500 including 1,600 seats. Mjällby itself only has around 5,000 inhabitants but with a massive local support the club has managed to establish themselves at the top of Swedish football. In the 1980s Mjällby won promotion to Allsvenskan three times but were relegated the following year on all three occasions.

Report (Mjällby - AIK, 2009):

Mjällby against AIK in the quarter final of the Swedish cup had all the ingredients of a proper cup tie. Perfect weather, long queues of cars leading down to Hällevik, best attendance for many years at Strandvallen and the team from the country side vs the team from the big city. Mjällby are currently top of Superettan and if nothing extraordinary happens they will play in Allsvenskan next year. The match started with Mjällby scoring early on and in the first 15-20 minutes Mjällby had most of the play and they could have scored again. AIK however showed why they play in Allsvenskan and towards the end of the first half they had a number of chances and equalised just before the break. The second half started with a AIK goal but Mjällby didn´t give up and took control of events once more and should have equalised. They didn´t though and AIK were through to the semifinal.
