KILO ~1 1/2 year old. Good with older considerate children and dogs. Not good with cats.

Meet Kilo and 1 1/2 year old male sable shepherd. His owner brought him to the shelter because he was moving and couldn’t take him.
Kilo didn’t know a lot when he came to us but he has learned his basic commands and walks well on a leash. He is a terrific walking partner.
He is eager to please and learns quickly when we make it a game and treats are involved. It doesn’t appear he had many toys or bones to play with growing up so he is learning to have fun with them. He doesn’t really know how to play ball but we are teaching him and he is slowly getting the hang of it. He can be quite the athlete and loves to jump in his huge toy box to pick out his favorite toy.
Kilo can be shy with new people. He will give a ‘woof' or two but will settle when given the command to stop. He will need continued training when he is introduced to new people. Kilo wasn’t exposed to many things when he was a puppy so everything is new and an adventure. But he is very smart and once he learns something he never forgets and moves on quickly.
He has not shown any food or toy aggression and is quite good natured with his family. He is a ‘soft’ dog and takes correction easily. He loves to be pet and he likes to be brushed (wow, that’s a first). Stay tuned for nail clipping update which will be in the near future.
Kilo is going to doggie daycare a few days a week and he is doing well. He likes other dogs that are well behaved. He does great on his morning pack walks and enjoys exploring with his foster siblings. He does better with female dogs than males dogs.
Because we don’t know his background we would not place him in a home with children under 16. He seems to ignore the resident kitty but does have a high prey drive and will chase squirrels outside, so no cats, please.
Kilo is a wonderful dog with a lot of potential. He needs a home that will love him and continue his training and socialization. He has come such a long way in a very short time. Kilo needs an experienced handler that understands the working dog breed. He is not for a first time dog owner. German shepherd ownership experience as an adult is required. He is exhibiting protective behavior which is usual for the breed at this age, and he needs an experienced owner to channel that energy into positive behavior.
Kilo is neutered, up to date on shots, heart worm negative and on monthly preventative. He is also crate trained.
