On 15 April 1989, the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield became the scene of one of the blackest days in British sporting history.

Thousands of Liverpool fans were late trying to get into the stadium to watch their club in an FA Cup semifinal against Nottingham Forest.

The press of the crowd coupled with the disorganisation of the authorities led to the deaths of 94 people by crushing, as the pitch became a field hospital.
