Leeds United faced Huddersfield Town at Elland Road in this West Yorkshire derby, putting in a emphatic goalscoring display to claim an important three points.

The Whites were looking to return to winning ways after defeat last time out against Stoke City and were on top from the first minute, roared on by the ever-vocal crowd on home turf. 

With a swift counter-attack in the 20th minute, Leeds went into the lead. The build up owed much to the work of Georginio Rutter who did brilliantly to control the ball on the edge of his own area, before releasing it and beginning the attack.

It was Summerville who received the pass from Georginio, to sprint forward up the pitch. He carried it to the edge of the Huddersfield box and played it to Dan James and from there, the winger controlled and superbly curled home into the bottom corner. 

Leeds had largely dominated the match from minute one and stopped the visitors from having any attempts on goal up to the half-hour mark, which allowed them to constantly attack. 

Summerville continued to cause chaos down the left-wing, in the centre, and in the visitors penalty area as the Whites then quickly found two more goals in the space of three minutes. 

The second came from a clever run into the box from the inform Dutchman and he was found by Sam Byram. Summerville showed quick feet to create space for himself, before drilling low and hard into the back of the net to double the lead.

Just moments later, he would then turn creator again for James, to get another! This time Summerville played the ball in behind the Terriers backline and James used his pace to sprint onto it, compose himself, then slot into the corner and make it three! 

Darren Moore’s side couldn’t cope with the pace of the Whites and picked up a number of yellow cards. Jonathan Hogg, Sorba Thomas and Brahima Diarra all went into the book for late challenges. 

Fantastic build-up play from Georginio nearly created a fourth, before the break. He beat everyone in his way to cut into the box and lay the ball off for Summerville, but in the visitors goal, Lee Nicholls saved well at full-stretch, whilst James fired the rebound over from a tight angle. 

With five minutes of stoppage time held up, there was still time for Leeds to get another. A stunning team move which saw a number of passes was finished off by Summerville, who capped off a tremendous first half at Elland Road. 

HALF TIME: Leeds United 4-0 Huddersfield Town 

Huddersfield made a double change at the break. Tom Edwards and Diarra were replaced by Matty Pearson and Ben Jackson when the teams reemerged from the tunnel. 

The opening 15 minutes of the second half saw Leeds with plenty of the ball, but no real chances came. Farke went to his bench and replaced the left-hand-side combination which had worked so well in the first 45, in Byram and Summerville. Luke Ayling and Willy Gnonto came on for the duo. 

Moments later in an enforced change to due to injury, Joe Rodon was substituted as well, with Liam Cooper coming on in his place. 

With 20 minutes remaining, Huddersfield pulled a goal back. Thomas struck a powerful effort from range which Illan Meslier saved, but Michal Helik was quickest to react and turn home to the rebound. 

In what was becoming a stop-start second half, further changes came. Jaidon Anthony and Patrick Bamford were next to enter, replacing James and Georginio. 

The hard work in the first half from the Whites had paid off, with their big advantage helping them to just control the game and keep it tight until the end. 

When the final whistle sounded at Elland Road it confirmed an important three points in this West Yorkshire derby and made it four wins on the bounce at home for Farke’s side.
