Great announcement Premier Steven Miles 👏The Brisbane 2032 Games is too important to squander; and division will only mean missed opportunities for all. We really can’t afford to miss the fundamental opportunity to transform and transition industries to a low carbon, circular economy through infrastructure (re)development.
The comprehensive review must unquestionably consider our commitment to a carbon positive games, and align with principles that deliver on both Queensland’s and Australia’s emissions avoidance and Net Zero targets.
Hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics is a massive chance to drive preparedness and transformation in our economy and improve our communities.

The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a chance for us to unite, but they have become divisive.
I’m determined to end the division and bring people together.
That’s why we’re launching an independent 60-day review of venue infrastructure.
It will be led by former Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.
The review will assess whether the new and upgraded venues are value for money and create a lasting legacy for Queenslanders.
I want the Games to deliver long-term benefits for the entire state.
This will help us achieve that.
When Miles announced the review he said: “And that’s one of the things that has led me to make this decision, to review the plan. I think it’s a good thing that a leader is willing to say, maybe we got that wrong.”
No,a good leader is willing to say: "We got that wrong and I take responsibility".
Handing something to a review is almost always the opposite of good leadership - unless the issues really aren't well understood it is normally shirking a decision, providing political cover or flat out abrogating the responsibility of elected office.
As Yes Minister said you should never start an inquiry without knowing what it will say.
The handing over of responsibility by the elected to unelected reached its nadir during Covid - when what should have been advice only, to be weighed up with other possibly competing advice with different priorities, became commands from on high apparently.
By definition experts concentrate on one field - to a carpenter every problem is a nail. Politicians are elected to make decisions representative of all the competing interests from a community and to take in advice from multiple sources. Handing this power over to a review or an expert means we no longer have any need of elected office holders.
