Did you know fresh fruits 🍓🍑🍎 and vegetables 🥦🌽🥕can be dangerous ⚠️ for some patients? . Neutrophils are a specific type of white blood cell that protect against bacterial infections. . Neutrophils are an essential part of your immune system and with inadequate numbers, can result in an impaired immune system, which leads to a higher risk of infection. . Of course the most widely known drugs to cause neutropenia are chemotherapy drugs and other cancer directed therapies. . While on these drugs, close monitoring of labwork is prudent to evaluate for white blood cell trends. . Additionally, extensive patient and family education should be done to make patients aware of signs and symptoms of infection and precautionary measures to take. . These precautions while neutropenic include: ⚪️ Avoiding raw or undercooked vegetables, fruit and food. ⚪️ Staying away from anyone who is sick. ⚪️ Avoiding large crowded public areas or events. ⚪️ Getting adequate rest. ⚪️ Performing hand hygiene often. ⚪️ Brushing and flossing teeth routinely. ⚪️ Reporting fever and new symptoms immediately. . Healthcare providers should perform regular and meticulous assessment and evaluation on neutropenic patients and should be alert and prompt in detecting and treating any suspicious infectious symptoms. . Attorneys, does your case involve a patient who got a serious infection? Let our team review your case and shed light 🔦 on important details on your case. . #cancer #oncology #neutropenia #health #nursesonlinkedin _________________________________ Next Level Nurse Consulting, LLC: Providing medical information and valuable healthcare expertise to attorney clients nationwide. 📧 lakeisha@nextlevelnurseconsulting.com 📞 (858) 250-0570

I remember learning about this way back in nursing school, but haven’t had to put it into practice because I don’t see many patients on chemo drugs in my niche. Thanks for the reminder. Is there also a warning about fresh flowers?
