What Design is and what ought to be is a matter of perspectives. We need more programs like F1 in schools.

An interesting take on exams and assessment. I agree with this on many levels.

I’ve seen this take some flak on social media. ‘Not an expert’, ‘90 mins of football after training, isn’t that the same as exams’? A few points: 1- GCSES as a ‘leavers certificate’ no longer serve the purpose they were designed for; leaving education age is now 18. The value & breadth of options in most institutions not up to modern standards that ‘government’ purports it to be, I.E some slow inextricable march to university. That is not to say we create a waste land, but a four year program could create a huge opportunity for engaged learning (for learnings sake), as well as avoiding the ‘gaming of learning’ (solely to pas exams). 2- The approach of a highly ‘knowledge rich’ curriculum pressures teaching time and forces a decontextualisation of the learning almost a giant memory test. This also leads to a marginalisation of extra curricular (which is also vital to develop our youth, socially, culturally holistically). 3- Not all end point assessment needs to be exam based, viva, presentation supporting other learning.( this has wider consequences, with ever increasing class sizes, academic institutions creaking at the seams). 4- Have the end product of school created a genuine breadth? The word ‘academic’ is banded about as a nebulous commentary for an inextricable march to higher education. Can we as a culture create a narrative that learning is actually an enjoyable process? That it can be an entity in its own right? Can we open up (and support the myriad of post school opportunities for young people). This video for me is a comment that we (as a society) can and should be serving the next generation far better. That we should be deeply thinking of the tax we levy on them by lauding end point assessment as the best metric. Society changes. But this is only if there is a large mind set change, brought on in some instances by ‘non experts’

Exam assessment supports only type of learning. Formative assessments and other forms of assessing learning is vital for children (e.g., presentations, coursework, video, diaries, recordings). We shouldn't judge and define people just based on their exam results :) #exams #alevels #resultsday

The Primary Class is the first step in F1 in Schools ladder to competing in the global F1 in Schools STEM Challenge. The primary class is ideal for ages 7-11 years old, it is designed to develop STEM skills and encouraging innovation, teamwork and critical thinking. This was my first step too when I started to be part of 1 Action Education #1ActionEducation #STEMChallenge #F1inSchoolsPrimaryClass
