The FA cup is our oldest and most cherished domestic cup competition. Full of historic upsets, and the chance for smaller clubs to play the big boys on those great cup nights and boost thier financial revenue at the same time. Not satisfied with with the huge TV reveunes they already generate, the premier league now want to sell media rights to our historic competition to overseas customers. They also want certian conditions met, such as scrapping replays, getting rid of the FA cup weekend and moving certain games to mid week. You'll probabaly have to pay to watch games on premium channels as well as the domestic tv rights will be up for grabs. Whilst this may benefit the premier league elite in terms of fixture scheduling, it does absolutely nothing for teams in the lower leagues, in fact it's likely to hit thier revenue like a sledgehammer. The premier league are promising more money for grass roots football, but I suspect that stakeholders will get first dibs on the extra revenue this generates, and I really wonder how much will be left in the kitty to support the next generation. It's also true that the FA cup has lost it's sparkle over the last few years, but surely there is a better way to make it the great competition it's always been without selling our souls to the devil in the meantime. Thoughts? #money #football #premierleague #facup #soccer #grassroots #jumpersforgoalposts #bbcsport #skysports #thefa https://lnkd.in/eS8jhXGr

❗️Winter transfer period 2024 surprises the experts 📉The winter transfer market 2024 in the top 5 leagues in Europe was below the expectations of the experts with expenses of only € 616 million. Compared to the World Cup winter of 2023, transfer expenses even decreased by 43%. Looking at the winter transfer expenditure of the last 10 years, comparable values have already occurred in the past. Nevertheless, due to the record values from the summer of 2023, expectations were different or higher. 👉Particularly striking was the reluctance of the Premier League clubs, which invested only €121 million. The Premier League has tightened the so-called Profitability & Sustainability Rules, which could be a reason for the low investment propensity of English clubs to invest. Nevertheless, we must not forget that the Premier League made record spending in the past summer transfer period in 2023. 🏆Thanks to the CVC funds, the French clubs spent the most of all top 5 leagues for the first time, a total of € 197 million. The funds from CVC are basically not earmarked and could therefore be responsible for the high expenses. ✅In the Bundesliga and LaLiga, spending reached the highest level since 2020, but remained below the record values of previous years. ⚽️An interesting winter transfer period 2024 with different spending trends in different leagues and regions! More about this in our next post... #Transfermarket #Wintertransfers #Football #PremierLeague #Bundesliga #LaLiga

CEO and Co-Founder at TicketCo & Host of Ticketingpodcast.com - Bringing forward the heroes of ticketing
BOXING DAY IN MAY It’s the 16th of May today, and for people outside of Norway that probably doesn’t mean that much. For us Norwegians it’s quite the opposite. We celebrate our Constitution Day on the 17th of May, and within Norwegian football that celebration kicks off with a full round of football the night before. The 16th of May is our equivalent to Boxing Day, where all the big clubs play at home and most of the tickets are sold way in advance. This year, the big question just hours before the matches starts is this: Will we reach a magical total of 100,000 tickets sold for the 8 matches in Eliteserien? Maybe we will and maybe we won’t, but either way it is fabulous to see what a great job all the clubs and their facilitators at the Norwegian Professional Football League are doing this year. Norwegian football has experienced a massive growth this season, and we have to go back more than 10 years to find equivalent ticket sales. As the league’s ticketing supplier we couldn’t have been more happy. Football has proven to be resilient towards the financial stressful times a lot of people across Europe are experiencing these days. We are supporting our teams almost no matter what. Even so, I find it extremely impressive to actually grow the ticket sales in times like these, and that is exactly what the Norsk Toppfotball / Norwegian Professional Football League (NPFL) have achieved. That is also why I am so happy that Thomas Torjusen, Head of Media, Technology and Chief Digital Officer at the Norwegian Professional Football League, has accepted to do a webinar with us on the 22nd of June. Here he will take us through what he and his organisation together with the clubs have done to achieve record numbers across the league. If you spend 25 minutes of your valuable time, you can expect even more valuable insights into the following subjects: The benefits of a league agreement The beauty of subscriptions for season tickets The importance of a powerful marketing strategy How the clubs and the media rights holders can benefit from each other Please don’t hesitate to DM me if you can’t find any information about this webinar on TicketCo’s resource page on the internet. #technology #people #webinar
