🌍🌱 Countdown to World Soil Day! 🌍 Day 9 - Optimising Nitrogen Use for Healthier Soils and Increased Efficiency! Southern Water teamed up with NIAB to investigate how cutting down on nitrogen use affects both nitrogen leaching and gross margin in a replicated tramline field scale trial. 🌍💧 Conclusion Highlights: 🌾 The farm had already implemented reduced nitrogen usage, so further reduction resulted in a significant drop in yield. 🔄 Reverse correlation observed between nitrogen application and nutrient use efficiency. 💡 Application of 60 kg N/ha resulted in a 75% increase in nutrient use efficiency compared to the control with 190 kg N/ha. 👥 Join the Conversation: How can we strike the right balance between yield optimisation and sustainable farming practices? Share your thoughts! 🌿💬 #SustainableAgriculture #SoilHealth #NitrogenEfficiency #FarmingInnovation #EnvironmentalSustainability #WorldSoilDay2023

At Ripple Tech awareness Creation on conservation agriculture is an approach to farming that promotes minimal soil disturbance, diverse crop rotations, and the maintenance of soil cover to improve soil health and reduce erosion. We train our smallholder farmers, on this regenerated agriculture, by explaining to them that nature does not till, and the embracing of earth worms, and living roots helps to make soil fertile for farming. Since plants absorbs CO2 in the air, by a process called photosynthesis, the carbon turns into sugar and other compounds that serves as food for other micro-organism, and breaks down organic substances in the soil, making it easier for plants to absorbs nutrients. The Process and Practices , such as minimum tillage and soil cover, help improve soil health and resilience. Join us in this, #Regeneratedagriculture #food #agriculture

UNDO's mission of reducing CO2 in the atmosphere using rain, land, and rock is primarily carried out in local communities, largely thanks to our community members. We rely on individuals who crush rock, operate trucks, manage fields, and grow food 🚜 We prioritise early and frequent engagement with the communities we serve, explaining the numerous benefits of our process and fostering understanding. Through a science-based approach, we concretely illustrate how we can benefit landowners while also helping the planet 🌎 Our farmers receive free, nutrient-rich silicate rock like basalt, which is spread on their land. This practice improves soil health, boosts crop yields, and reduces the reliance on costly fertilisers 🌱 “For farmers, the benefits of UNDO’s work are clear: spreading crushed basalt on our fields is good for the soil quality and good for the livestock that grazes here, which is what every farmer wants. It also means that less costly products are needed to maintain the health and pH of our soil. It’s free and easy to do as UNDO organise the spreading for us and we’re already reaping the rewards.” - John Logan, Farmer, Blairmains. Imagine burning a huge pile of cash. That's what it feels like to waste resources. - Traditional farming uses 70% of the world's water - Pesticide runoff pollutes rivers and oceans - Soil erosion removes nutrients from the earth Enter hemp. - Uses 50% less water than cotton - Fewer pesticides needed - Aids soil health & regrowth Save time. Save money. Save resources. Our eco-friendly hemp farming is the future of agriculture. Join us and discover how we support, not harm, our planet 🌍 #sustainablefarming #hempfarming

Agricultural runoff, known for contaminating water with nitrogen and phosphorus, has been a persistent issue nationwide. This article discusses a promising development: a three-year trial in Wisconsin demonstrates that conservation practices effectively reduce nitrogen loss, leading to improved water quality. These results show significant potential for advancing both sustainable farming and better water quality. What are your thoughts on this positive development? #watersustainability #waterinnovation #waterquality https://lnkd.in/e_6DuYni
