Work is set to begin on the expansion of Alaves' Estadio Mendizorroza.

Refurbishment work on the stadium will get underway at the end of July after it was delayed by around a month.

The work will have to be completed before Alaves play Levante in their first game of the LaLiga Santander 2019/20 season, which is 17 days away.

The refurbishment will cost 1.5 million euros and has to be done before the next stage of the expansion can get started.

The local council have already made the Plan of Urban Order, which an expansion like this needs, available for the public to see until August 19.

The new stadium will see all four stands covered by one roof in a much more modern look than the current ground, which is among the three oldest in Spain.

Alaves will cover 60 percent of the total 46 million euro cost, with the local council and Basque government subsidising the other 40 percent.
