The Mr. Olympia competition is an annual international bodybuilding event for professional male bodybuilders, and the next edition is coming up soon.
It was initiated by Joe Weider to provide opportunities for Mr. Universe winners to continue competing and earn money.
The first Mr. Olympia was held in 1965, with Larry Scott as the first champion.
The record for the most Mr. Olympia wins is held by Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman, each with eight titles.
This competition gained significant attention through the documentary film 'Pumping Iron' in 1977, which featured the build-up to the 1975 Mr. Olympia and helped launch the acting careers of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbu.
In addition to the male Mr. Olympia, there are female counterparts, including Ms. Olympia, Fitness Olympia and Figure Olympia for fitness and figure competitors. All these contests take place during the same weekend. There's also a Mr. Olympia Amateur event for amateur competitors.
The IFBB selects Olympia contestants from the highest-placed competitors at various qualifying competitions, known as the Olympia Qualifying Season.
The rules for qualification include placing in the top five in the previous Mr. Olympia, winning IFBB qualifying contests or ranking among the top three in total points for second through fifth place at qualifying events.
Special invitations can also be extended to other competitors at the discretion of the IFBB Professional League.

The 2023 Mr. Olympia is scheduled to be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, from November 2 to November 5.
