Staurogyne Porto Velho Characteristics
Despite being little known at European level, in contrast to Staurogyne Repens, Staurogyne sp. "Porto Velho” is rarely grown in Europe today. In the United States and Japan it is one of the most popular new foreground plants. It is a very attractive and versatile plant, and will probably remain popular for many years to come.
Obviously, Staurogyne sp. “Porto Velho” is identical to the aquarium plant sold as Hygrophila sp. 'Roraima', whose name probably originates from another import. The Brazilian federal states Rondonia (with the capital Porto Velho) and Roraima are located in the western part of the country. Therefore, it is highly likely that these plants, originally collected there, belong to the same species that is distributed in both states.
