Info
Chaetodon larvatus also known as the Orange face butterflyfish is one of the smaler butterflyfish with a triangular shape, grey body with yellow lines, black dorsal fin and tail, orange head. It is very close to Chaetodon triangulum of the Indian Ocean and to Chaetodon baronessa of the Pacific Ocean; it is clearly distinguished by the orange face.
The Orange face butterflyfish should never be taken out of the ocean as they eat nothing but corals and chances of survival in the aquarium are almost zero. There isn’t a reason that any store should be selling any of these beautifully Butterfly fish.
Remarks:
Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
