Sen. Johnson Joins Colleagues in Requesting Conference Meeting on the Broken Budget Process

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) joined U.S. Sens. Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kan.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), and Mike Lee (R-Utah) in sending a letter to Senate Republican Conference Chair John Barrasso, M.D. (R-Wyo.) requesting a meeting of the conference the week of April 8th, to discuss potential reforms to the budget process.

“As we rush to finalize the 2024 FY budget – months after the fiscal year has started – we are already behind on the 2025 budget deadlines set in statute,”  the senators wrote. “Reform is needed and it is vital that we as a Conference debate how to get our budget process on track.”

March 20, 2024

The Honorable John Barrasso
Chairman
Senate Republican Conference

Dear Senator Barrasso,

We write to request that you call a meeting of the Conference to discuss potential reforms to the budget process. As we rush to finalize the 2024 FY budget – months after the fiscal year has started – we are already behind on the 2025 budget deadlines set in statute. Reform is needed and it is vital that we as a Conference debate how to get our budget process on track. Accordingly, we request that this Conference be held the week of April 8th.
