Wayne Bridge faces ex-lover Vanessa Perroncel in court

Bridge, 29, who quit the England team last month after finding out that Miss Perroncel had an affair with his team-mate John Terry, is said to have offered only £3,000 a month to look after his son Jaydon, despite earning £88,000 a week.

The former couple attended a hearing behind closed doors at the Family Division of the High Court in London where Miss Perroncel is believed to have demanded £20,000 and a house in London.

Sources close to Bridge said he had been prepared to pay £10,000 per month and give French-born Miss Perroncel, 33, the home in Surrey where the couple lived together until they split last year.

The Manchester City defender is also thought to have asked the court to take into account a rumoured payment of £800,000 in “hush money” said to have been paid by Terry to Miss Perroncel, though the former lingerie model insists no such payment was made.

Her spokesman, Max Clifford, said: “There’s been no money received at all. Checks have been done and her lawyers provided the information to the courts.

“She hasn’t done any interviews or a kiss-and-tell despite receiving numerous offers. She is a private person and has been upset at the things that have come out. He (Bridge) is obviously a very high earner and all she wants is for him to be responsible and make sure the little boy is taken care of.”

Neither Bridge nor Miss Perroncel made any comment as they attended the hearing before District Judge Peter Greene. A second hearing had been scheduled for later in the day, but instead the two parties and their lawyers Lucy Stone QC, representing Bridge, and Jonathan Cohen QC, representing Miss Perroncel, spent the afternoon negotiating in private away from the court.

The parties refused to say whether any settlement had been reached.

Bridge has had little contact with his son, who lives with Miss Perroncel, since Terry’s affair with her was exposed in February. Terry won a temporary gagging order preventing newspapers from revealing the affair, before a judge lifted the ban, saying Terry was simply trying to protect his multi-million pound sponsorship deals.

Terry, who was one of Bridge’s closest friends when they both played for Chelsea, was stripped of the England captaincy by the manager Fabio Capello to punish him for his behaviour. But the move was not enough to placate Bridge, who announced his decision to withdraw from the England team and forfeit a virtually guaranteed place in the squad for this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

He said he believed his place in the team had become “untenable and potentially divisive” and later refused to shake hands with Terry when the players faced each other in a Premier League game.
