What Will Your 3D Baby Scan Look Like?

By the time that you have your 3D ultrasound you will probably have had at least two 2D scans already. You will probably be quite familiar with what a normal ultrasound looks like, especially if you have been looking at your scan pictures and videos. However, knowing what a conventional ultrasound looks like won’t prepare you for what you will see when you have a 3D baby scan.

The Picture Will Be 3D

The biggest difference between your usual 2D scan and a 3D ultrasound is that you will be able to see your baby in three dimensions. Instead of looking at a cross-section through your baby’s body, you will actually get a much more realistic view of what he or she looks like. It can be easier to understand what you are looking at on a 3D baby scan and you will probably find that your baby looks almost like a newborn.

It Will Be in Colour

The pictures you see during a 3D ultrasound will appear in colour rather than in black and white. Your baby will appear as pinkish or flesh coloured on a dark background. However, it is worth pointing out that the colour you see isn’t actually taken from your baby’s skin tone. It is simply added by the software when it creates the image. Ultrasound probes can’t collect any information about colour from inside your body.

You Will See Your Baby’s Face

Another big difference between medical ultrasounds and your 3D scan is that the images will focus on the outside of the baby. Instead of showing the baby’s internal organs, the 3D ultrasound will reveal your baby’s skin and face. It is this difference that can make the 3D scan such an amazing experience. Although seeing your baby during the 2D scans can be very emotional, there is nothing quite like seeing your baby’s face for the first time while he or she is still in the womb.

If you’re considering having a 3D ultrasound then finding out how the pictures will look may be enough to convince you to get the scan. You can find lots of scan pictures and videos online which will help you to understand why these three differences from conventional scans are so significant.
