Beauty, 1993 Olafur Eliasson

I was looking through some photographs from exhibitions I went to before lockdown. I realise I take so many, but rarely do anything with them, so it’s been quite nice to re-visit and remember.

I came across pictures of Olafur Eliasson’s exhibition at the Tate Modern. I think a lot of people enjoyed his room of multiple colourful shadows, Your Uncertain Shadow, 2010. I used my shadow portrait for my Whatsapp profile picture for a long time.

He is truly the master curator of light, colour and harnessing nature. One of the most memorable exhibits for me was the room with a rain cloud. Seeing a rain cloud out of context and at head height was surreally beautiful. Eliasson’s ability to manifest wonder in the seemingly ordinary is humbling and heartening and encourages us to all re-examine the world around us, especially at times like these. I appreciate nature for its healing presence more than ever.
