Hiroshi Sugito – Particles and Release

Toyota Municipal Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Hiroshi Sugito, Studio Velocity
A retrospective and exhibition of new works by Hiroshi Sugito (b. 1970), a Nagoya-born artist who, along with Yoshitomo Nara, has been one of Japan’s leading painters since the 1990s. His first solo show in the Tokai area examines how he has crafted his unique style since his debut in the mid-1990s through his abstract, representational, and narrative paintings. Featuring light pastels, overlapping geometric shapes, and houses, cars, trees, skies and other motifs with a childlike touch, his works are diversely composed. Collaborations with architects Jun Aoki of Spiders, and Masayuki Oishi, and Kentaro Kurihara and Miho Iwatsuki of Studio Velocity are also displayed.
