Ah, the late 1960s. LBJ occupied the White House. The Beatles ruled the charts. And Ford spent its summer vacations in France, settling a grudge with Ferrari by dominating the 24 Hours of Le Mans after the Italian outfit flaked on a deal to become part of the American automaker.
Ford's GT40 won the legendary endurance race—over which Ferrari had long ruled—every year from 1966 to 1969. Half a century later, the Americans are still celebrating.
Ford marked the 50-year anniversary of its first win by returning to Le Mans with the drool-inducing Ford GT supercar, but it didn't stop there. Last year, it also built a limited edition of the GT, called the GT Heritage, a black and silver ode to its sweep of the top three spots at the 1966 race.
And now, Ford is back with another limited edition, this one dedicated to—you guessed it—its 1967 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This one's called the Ford GT ’67 Heritage.
The GT may be old news by now, but it still looks good. The popsicle red exterior, white stripes, and No. 1 hood and door graphics have been faithfully reproduced from the GT40 Mark IV race car driven to glory by Dan Gurney and A. J. Foyt all those years ago. The interior plays to theme, with red accent stitching on the leather and carbon fiber seats, and on the seat belt webbing.
Plus, you get all the specs that come with the standard GT: 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque from the 3.5-liter V6 engine, good for a 216 mph top speed.
Ford says limited quantifies of this special edition will be available for the 2018 model GT, so move quickly on this one—or say Hello, Goodbye.
