It's officially time to break out the Christmas movies. With so many choices (and streaming platforms) to choose from in 2023, I wouldn't blame you if you feel overwhelmed with options. And while everyone has their chosen classic Christmas movie to rewatch every year, I'd recommend taking this opportunity to explore new titles in Christmas 2023.
ICYDK, Disney+ isn’t just the place for Marvel and Star Wars spin-off series. The streaming platform also has plenty of Christmas movies ready for you to stream on demand (sorry Hallmark, but we’re breaking up). From classics like the Home Alone franchise to new, and exciting Disney Channel Original Movies such as Dashing Through the Snow (2023), you’ll never run out of holiday movies to watch this December.
Grab a blanket, some hot cocoa, popcorn (and maybe a friend or beau) and make a Disney movie marathon for Christmastime 2023. (BRB, can’t make it out tonight because I’m streaming The Santa Clause, one, two, and three. And binging the TV show for good measure!)

Dashing Through The Snow (2023)
Disney
Ludacris is going Christmas mode in Dashing Through The Snow. A divorced social worker (Ludacris) gets his daughter for Christmas Eve, but, lacking Christmas spirit from a traumatic experience with a mall Santa Claus as a child, decides to take her for a ride along to celebrate the holiday.
The Naughty Nine asks the question, 'What gives Santa Claus the right to decide who's naughty or nice?' When protagonist Andy finds out he's on the naughty list, he organizes a group of other children with the same label to get the presents they "deserve."
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever (2023)
Disney
You'll have to wait a bit for this iconic new Disney film, but the wait is worth it. Based loosely on the novel by the (almost) same name, Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Christmas Cabin Fever is a cartoon-ified Diary of A Wimpy Kid, featuring the naughtiest child of all: Greg Heffley.
This series of shorts features Mickey and friends as they tell three stories including "A Very Goofy Christmas" and "Mickey and Minnie's Gift of the Magi." It’s perfect for little ones, and whenever you want a nice dose of nostalgia.
The sequel covers an ice skating rivalry, Huey, Dewey, and Louie trying to remove themselves from the naughty list, and so much more.
Remember this DCOM? If not, here's a quick refresher: Two girls have a plan to get school closed by making it snow in Los Angeles. But…that totally screws up Christmas.
It doesn’t get more classic than this Christmas tale. Ebenezer Scrooge (voiced by Jim Carrey) meets the ghost of his late business partner, who warns that three spirits will visit him that night. You know the deal: The ghosts take him on a journey through his past, present, and future to try to make him less bitter.
Oh, hey! A Christmas Carol version for kids (of all ages). This one acts out the classic tale with muppets and songs that’ll get stuck in your head—in the best way possible, of course. It's also a lot less frightening than Jim Carey's version, TBH.
Richie wishes he didn’t exist after he’s unfairly framed for a sleigh crash. An ~actual~ wishing machine grants his wish, sending him to a world where he’s in charge. Richie struggles to get back home in time for Christmas and learns he doesn’t have it that bad after all.
When a convict dresses up as Santa to break out of jail, he doesn’t anticipate the fact that kids everywhere love Santa. His plan to find his hidden loot is foiled by two little kids who just want to hang with Santa (fair).
Ginny isn’t exactly feeling the Christmas spirit, thanks to her husband losing his job. But her daughter Abbie meets an angel who wants to lift everyone’s spirits, and Christmas becomes magical again.
Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Perfect for when you just can’t let go of Halloween, this movie follows the story of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's pumpkin king, who is over scaring people in the "real world." Jack accidentally finds Christmastown and tries to get Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa. Not the best way to get on the "Nice List," but okay...
One of the debut original movies from Disney+, Noelle stars Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader as Noelle and Nick Kringle, daughter and son of—you guessed it—old Kris Kringle himself. Nick is poised to take over the family business from their dad, until he's about to crumble (like a milk-dunked Christmas cookie) under the pressure. Noelle suggests he take a break, but when he doesn't return, she and Elf Polly head off to search for him.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
The Narnia movies were made by Disney (hooray!), and while ~technically~ they aren’t Christmas movies, there’s some solid winter vibes going on there. Check out The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, which finds the four British Pevensie siblings in the fantasy world of Narnia, which has been placed in an eternal winter by the bad White Witch. (She's like an evil version of Elisa.) There’s a solid cameo from Father Christmas, so…
This Christmas movie has all kinds of stars, including Jonathan Taylor Thomas (JTT!!!) and Jessica Biel. In it, JTT is lured home for Christmas by his estranged dad with the promise of receiving a classic Porsche. But he’s dumped in the desert in a Santa suit without money or ID by some jerks, making the whole thing tricky.
When Santa Claus falls off a family’s roof on Christmas Eve, divorced dad Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) finds himself magically transforming into Father Christmas himself. Scott is now the new Santa and must prepare for next Christmas, while trying to convince himself and others to believe with the help of his son Charlie.
This film turned into one of the most iconic modern Christmas franchises, and even has a spin-off television show which just dropped its Season 2.
In this DCOM, Danny and his con-artist uncle must now deliver Santa’s gifts after accidentally knocking out Kris Kringle on Christmas Eve. Can these two save the day just in time for Christmas?
Never have I ever teared up while watching a movie about talking dogs—'til now. After Santa loses his memory on a trip to New York City, it’s up to Paws, his furry friend, young orphan Quinn, her friend Will, and a group of magical talking dogs to save Father Christmas and show the world the true meaning of Christmas.
The OG Santa Paws movie, Santa Buddies tells the story of The Buddies, Disney’s uber-cute talking puppies. When Puppy Paws forgets the true meaning of the holiday season, his dad Santa Paws and the Buddies must remind him what it’s all about.
To appease Rabbit, who threatens to move away after Pooh and friends bother him, Pooh Bear, Tigger, and Piglet make New Year’s resolutions to change who they are. Wait, Tigger stops bouncing? Safe to say, things get a bit, uh, complicated, leading Rabbit to discover the true spirit of the holiday season.
Although technically not a movie, this short is a classic part of Disney’s Christmas canon and just had to make the list. In it, Mickey and Pluto are chopping down a tree to bring home for Christmas unaware that Chip n’ Dale (get it?) live in it. Pluto tries to warn Mickey of this, and well, you’ll have to watch it to find out what happens next.
