RM2RGG36M–An old engraving of the sinking of the CSS Alabama, in June 1864 by the USS Kearsarge at the Battle of Cherbourg outside the port of Cherbourg, France, during the American Civil War. It is from an American history book of 1895. The Alabama was a screw sloop-of-war built in 1862 for the Confederate States Navy. It was built in Birkenhead, England by John Laird Sons and Company as ‘ship number 0290’. She was launched as ‘Enrica’ and secretly slipped away on 29 July 1862. Alabama served as a successful commerce raider, attacking Union shipping in her two-year career until she was sunk.

RM2RGG37Y–An old engraving of a Union naval vessel passing through Bailey's Dam, a timber dam on the Red River at Alexandria, Louisiana, USA, 1864, during the American Civil War. It is from an American history book of 1895. Built during the Red River Campaign, designed by Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Bailey, it allowed Mississippi River Squadron boats passage downstream over the Alexandria rapids (as shown here). In the 150-foot centre gap of the rock/timber dam four coal barges were anchored into the riverbed. The dam was breached when one barge was towed out of the way allowing to pass downstream.
